The lines began forming outside The Candle Shop two days before Hurricane Sandy raged through our area. Cars came and went alongside Kings Highway with a mission to get their extra supply of light.  We were told that Sandy might be the storm of our lives so after the batteries fade we knew that we could count on Peter and Amy’s candles.

For more than 40 years Peter and Amy Lenved have been the purveyors of light with their Sugar Loaf candles.  Peter’s one & only scented 12” tapers gave this reporter enough light and comfort through this recent storm to pen this story.  I have had the pleasure of enjoying, giving and explaining the wonder of these unique candles.  I never thought that I would be living and relying on them for three days now.  There is something reliable and romantic about taking pen to paper in candle light.  As the letters and words jump around my page with each flicker I am thankful for these two pioneers of the Sugar Loaf craft era.

Peter and Amy have been through seven recessions, countless storms and 40 holiday seasons with us in Sugar Loaf.  Their candles have been mainstay gifts for friends and relatives who have seen the light and want nothing more.  If you are still without power you can certainly go hunting for more batteries but you won’t enjoy the light half as much.

When in Sugar Loaf visit The Candle Shop which is Number 45 on the SL Walking Map.
